Gigorou:
A conversation with Sasha Sarago

Sasha Sarago - founder of Australia’s first ever Women of Colour focused magazine ‘Ascension Magazine’- has been a long time friend of ‘Fufu & Tibs’. As one of the podcast’s earlier supporters and it’s very first guest host, the relationship with Sasha has been a very valued one. So when she published her debut book Gigorou and asked the hosts to be a part of the launch, the answer was an absolute no-brainer.

Three quarters of the podcast (Rebka, Vanessa and Gillean) hosted and led a conversation with Sasha at the launch for Gigorou at Marrickville library in March of 2023. The books central themes, beauty, the challenges of First Nations womanhood and the lack of inclusion in Australia’s creative spheres were discussed by the four women in front of an audience of avid readers.

The co-hosts’ familiarity with the author as well their unique capability to maintain lighthearted demeanour whilst tackling heavier subjects meant that the conversation was fun but also did the themes of the book justice.
Attendees of the launch later applauded Rebka, Vanessa and Gillean’s insightful commentary, rhapsodizing their sense of humour and how their input enriched their understanding of the books’ ideas.
