Meet the hosts

Fronted by four passionate women of African backgrounds - who are hungry to listen, learn and clap back when necessary.

  • Civil servant Mary-Margaret Darkoh has made a name for herself as the witty firecracker of the podcast. Armed with both a sharp tongue and a worldly outlook, Mary is never afraid to speak her mind or crack a risqué joke.

  • Rebka Bayou is an Australian-born public servant of Ethiopian heritage. As a ‘96 baby, Rebka rides the line between Millennial and Generation Z, giving her a slightly different worldview from her fellow hosts, and of course making her the baby of the four. Listeners gush about her intellectual wit and wickedly funny one-liners, not to mention the unique cultural perspective she offers as the only East African of the hosts.

  • Vanessa Ocansey is a Marketing & Communications professional with a keen interest in digital media. Her love of travelling and self care makes for well rounded contributions on the podcast. Vanessa’s trademark infectious laugh is adored by her friends and listeners alike.

  • Design & Strategy professional Gillean Opoku is passionate about forging a space for Black Africans here in Australia. An eagerness to ‘send the elevator back down’ motivates Gillean to share advice on Fufu & Tibs. Many listeners have cited her straight talking and go getter attitude as sources of entertainment and inspiration.
